Act for Kids - Intensive Family Support Program

This is a free support service for families under pressure. They help families with issues such as domestic violence; mental health; substance abuse; financial pressures; building positive family relationships; and helping families to support their child's development. They have two locations in West Burleigh and Labrador.

Alcoholic Anonymous

AA can be very a very effective support group for some people. I (Clinton Laurence) think it depends on the specific support group and your support person.  AA is conducted at multiple locations on the Gold Coast but I would begin with contacting the Community Centre, Lawson St, Southport on (07) 5591 2062 and going to their website at www.aa.org.au

Back in Control: Drug Education & Relapse Prevention Program

This six session program is to help people stay off alcohol or other drugs. Please note that a maximum of only 12 persons are allowed to attend a session on a first in first served basis. Group sessions are held every Tuesday morning (10am to 12pm) and Tuesday afternoon (1pm to 3pm) in Southport at:

This is a specialist alcohol and other drug treatment program that is based on living in a drug free and highly structured residential facility.  The program focuses on clients aged 17 to 29 years old with a maximum of 40 residents at any one time.
